About Igor

Hi, I’m Igor Shteynberg, a Guild Certified Feldenkrais®  practitioner.

I have always been passionate about movement, although movement at first was more of a hobby before it became my profession.   After sitting at my desk job all day, movement was a way for me to stay connected with my body.  I found myself interested in many avenues of movement including swimming, martial arts, and dance.  I began to realize that I was unfulfilled by my current day job, and I decided to make a change.

I stumbled upon the Feldenkrais® Method while looking for a way to deal with chronic pain caused by a martial arts injury.  That first introduction changed my life in ways I hadn’t expected.  I was amazed by how small, subtle movements could release pain, improve my flexibility, and even make everyday actions feel lighter and easier.  It worked with my body, guiding me to find ease from within.  It was a practice that truly transformed my way of being in my own body and overtime helped develop a more kind and accepting attitude towards myself and others.

My curiosity only grew from there and I enrolled in the Feldenkrais® Professional Training Program in New York City in 2008.  While I was there I had the opportunity to study under Sheryl Field, who was able to pass down knowledge directly from Moshe Feldenkrais, the founder of the method.  After graduating in 2011 I began my private practice and started working directly under Sheryl Field’s supervision at The Field Center for Children’s Integrated Development to continue learning and deepening my understanding of the method..

For me, the Feldenkrais® practice is not just a job, it is a way to help people transform their lives. I invite you to take that first step and experience how Feldenkrais® can create a lasting impact on your life.  Come as you are, and let's unlock new possibilities together.  I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward a more balanced, present, and empowered life.

About the Feldekrais Method®

The “No pain, no gain” mindset has been so deeply ingrained into our lives that it’s hard to imagine any positive change without a struggle. But when it comes to movement, posture, balance, and coordination, forcing change brings temporary improvements that need to be constantly reinforced through repetitive adjustments.

The Feldenkrais Method is designed to support your nervous system in developing better movement habits. This is done by exploring movement without forcing, fixing, or pushing through pain. When your nervous system is pushed by external forces to change, it resists, because old movement habits have been verified through experience and therefore are safe and reliable, even if not the most efficient.

When you explore movement slowly and gently, without trying to fix it, you help increase awareness and create an opportunity for your nervous system to learn and create better movement habits from the inside. These new habits are based on your own learning experience will  replacing old, less efficient habits.

If you want to dive in deeper: The Feldenkrais® Method takes advantage of neuroplasticity, or your brain’s ability to form new neural connections based on sensing subtle differences in the quality of movement. (Weber-Feichner law and Just Noticeable Difference).

This process occurs unconsciously, allowing individuals to experience effortless change that does not require memorization or repetition in order to integrate. At the end of a session, clients often express that they feel taller, lighter on their feet, more grounded and at ease emotionally as well as physically, without working hard for it.

The Feldenkrais Method was developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, an Israeli engineer and physicist who, after suffering a debilitating knee injury, sought a new approach to rehabilitation. Frustrated by traditional treatment methods, Feldenkrais began exploring ways to heal his body through movement, using his background in physics, martial arts, and human development.

The Feldenkrais® Method is a unique form of somatic education designed to improve physical and mental well-being by gently and effectively working with the nervous system. Rather than focusing on repetitive muscle building exercises or stretching routines, the Feldenkrais® Method uses gentle movement and directed attention to help you feel better naturally.

The Feldenkrais® Method uses a holistic approach, focusing on the connection between mind, body and emotions. Instead of focusing on one aspect of a person at a time, the focus is on working with the whole person. , allowing for individualized learning and personal goals unique to you.
